UIL realignment: Live updates of the 2026-28 district assignments for Texas high schools
UIL releases its biennial district realignment Monday for the 2026-28 cycle, and the American-Statesman will break down its impact to Central Texas high schools.
Some schools will be happy and some will be less than thrilled, but every program will be impacted by arguably the biggest UIL event of the year.
As a refresher for Central Texas: Cedar Park, East View, Hays, Leander and Rouse are all jumping to Class 6A; Manor is dropping to Class 5A; Connally and McCallum are jumping to Class 5A Division I in football.
(A reminder that Classes 5A and below are split into divisions for football.)
DeSoto to compete in Class 5A after winning three 6A state football titles in four years
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS — DeSoto will be a big favorite to win another state title in football next season.
DeSoto will compete in Class 5A Division I for football and in 5A for all other sports for the next two years, the University Interscholastic League revealed Monday morning when it announced its biennial realignment. That means that DeSoto will now compete in the classification where its shrinking enrollment puts it, rather than opting to remain in 6A like it did two years ago for the current alignment.
DeSoto was placed in District 8-5A Division I, along with Burleson Centennial, Cedar Hill, Cleburne, Lancaster, Mansfield Legacy, Mansfield Summit and Midlothian

DALLAS — The big day has arrived. And there was at least one major change in the Texas high school football landscape.
The University Interscholastic League (UIL) — the governing body for public high school sports and activities in Texas — just released its updated district realignments for the next two years, 2026-2027 and 2027-2028.
And among the biggest — if not the biggest change — was that DeSoto, the longtime Class 6A powerhouse football program, will now compete in Class 5A. The Eagles were grouped into District 8-5A with Burleson Centennial, Cedar Hill, Cleburne, Lancaster, Mansfield Legacy, Mansfield Summit and Midlothian.
