Mavericks' Cooper Flagg headlines Rising Stars player pool
Dallas Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 pick in June's NBA draft, headlines the rosters announced Monday for next month's Rising Stars Challenge as part of All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles.
Flagg is one of 10 rookies, all of whom were taken in the lottery in June's draft, asked to participate in the event. The others are San Antonio Spurs guard Dylan Harper (taken second overall), Philadelphia 76ers guard VJ Edgecombe (third), Charlotte Hornets guard Kon Knueppel (fourth), Washington Wizards guard Tre Johnson (sixth), New Orleans Pelicans guard Jeremiah Fears (seventh) and forward Derik Queen (13th), Brooklyn Nets guard Egor Demin (eighth), Toronto Raptors forward Collin Murray-Boyles (ninth) and Memphis Grizzlies forward Cedric Coward (11th).
Cavs’ Jaylon Tyson named to NBA Rising Stars team at 2026 All-Star Weekend
Cavs second-year swingman Jaylon Tyson was named to the 2026 Rising Stars team. He becomes one of 24 Cavaliers selected to compete in the annual exhibition of premier young talent since its inception in 1994.
“He’s relentless with his habits and it’s translating to this guy that you’re treating like a 10-year veteran,” Cavs coach Kenny Atkinson said of Tyson. “It’s pretty amazing.”
Tyson, an essential afterthought as a rookie, is part of a pool of players that spotlights 21 NBA rookies and sophomores, plus seven others who have played in NBA G League games this season.
The No. 20 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Tyson was one of 11 sophomores chosen to participate in Rising Stars this year — a group highlighted by reigning Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle of the San Antonio Spurs.
