Cowboys TE coach Lunda Wells is expected to interview for Steelers OC

One of Mike McCarthy's assistants with the Cowboys is expected to be in the mix to join him in Pittsburgh.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Cowboys tight ends coach Lunda Wells is expected to interview for the offensive coordinator position on McCarthy's Steelers staff. Wells coached the tight ends for all five of McCarthy's seasons in Dallas before staying on the staff under Brian Schottenheimer.

The Commanders requested an interview with Wells before promoting David Blough to offensive coordinator this month.

Wells spent eight seasons on the Giants' staff before moving to Dallas in 2020. He also coached at LSU before making the move into the NFL ranks.

Steelers First DC Candidate Emerges

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers are now looking to fill Mike McCarthy's staff as they finalize their coaches for 2026 and begin to turn focus toward their roster before the NFL Combine.

While hiring a staff is complicated to begin with, the Steelers are looking for candidates who already have jobs with other teams. Because of that, their task is a little bit more difficult to try and land some of McCarthy's top options.

"He's in the process right now of trying to hire a staff," Rooney told Steelers.com.  "It's not an easy task, because some of the people he'd like to hire are under contract to other teams, and so we've got to get permission to talk to them. But just in general, the people he had targeted for key positions – offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, offensive line coach, and those kinds of things – we were very comfortable with the discussion around that."

Raiders DC Patrick Graham Candidate For Steelers’ DC Job?

Per Art Stapleton, Raiders DC Patrick Graham’s name has come up as a candidate for the DC role under new Steelers HC Mike McCarthy.

Graham spoke with the Dolphins regarding their HC opening before they hired former Packers DC Jeff Hafley.

Graham, 46, began his coaching career at Wagner as a graduate assistant back in 2002. He later spent three years at Richmond before landing his first NFL coaching job with the Patriots in 2009 as a defensive coaching assistant.

After seven years in New England, the Giants hired Graham as their defensive coach in 2016. Graham joined the Packers a year later as their LBs coach and run game coordinator before taking the Dolphins’ defensive coordinator job in 2019.
