Crash prompts new attention for Sandy intersection; city to reevaluate long-term solution
SANDY — The loss of life at a Sandy intersection, where 40-year-old Joshua Perry was hit and killed by a suspected drunk driver last week, has city officials looking to reevaluate potential long-term safety improvements.
The city said plans for interim measures, which residents could see in the very near future, are also in the works.
Sandy City Council members heard from members of the public works department, who said they are planning to relaunch a traffic study examining the viability of putting a roundabout or a traffic signal at the intersection of 11000 S. 1000 East.
The discussion during the City Council meeting followed a firestorm of concerns from community members calling for the city to take action in making the intersection safer for pedestrians.

Raised in Vermont, he developed a lifelong appreciation for nature and skiing, passions that led him west during college and shaped the active life he loved.

Friends remember man killed in Sandy accident as 'motivator,' 'amazing father'
SANDY, Utah — A.J. Medina looked forward to regular calls with Josh Perry. He shared how his close friend had always been a big motivator.
“You’re not allowed to give up. You’re not allowed to quit. You’re not allowed to have a bad day. He would quote David Goggins all the time,” said Medina.
“We hunted together, and he was probably one of my closest friends," Underwood shared. "I think I talked to him more than anybody.”
But last Friday, Underwood never received his usual call from Josh.
“It clicked right there. I had always heard from him by then,” he said.
