Among those honouring him was his Kung Fu Hustle (2004) co-star Stephen Chow, who wrote a simple yet heartwarming Instagram Story that read: "Remembering Mr Leung Siu-lung forever."

Hong Kong's famous martial arts actor Siu-Lung Liang has died at the age of 77. He was known worldwide for his powerful portrayal of The Beast in the film Kung Fu Hustle. He died on 14 January 2026, which was confirmed by the family on January 18. According to close friends and media reports, the cause of his death was cardiac arrest.

According to reports, Siu-Lung Liang died in China's Shenzhen city. The special thing was that till a few days before his death, he was looking completely healthy and happy. It was reported that he was enjoying a hotpot dinner with friends and also spending time on his favourite art, calligraphy. The official announcement of his death was made public on January 18. Emotionally, a pre-written message was posted from his official Douyin account, in which he said that he has gone for a film shoot far away and appealed to his fans to live well.

Bruce Leung’s manager confirms sudden cardiac arrest as cause of death at 77

19th January 2026 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong martial arts icon Bruce Leung, known as Leung Siu‑lung, has died aged 77. News of his passing emerged yesterday, with mainland media reporting that he suffered a sudden heart attack on 14th January 2026. Revered alongside Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Ti Lung as one of the “Four Dragons” of 1970s action cinema, Leung had remained remarkably active on mainland social platforms in recent years, making the news a shock to many admirers.

In a heartfelt statement, his manager and disciple recounted Leung’s final hours. He revealed that Leung passed away on the 14th, initially with only one close relative by his side. Within ten minutes two more relatives arrived, and after an hour further family members gathered. Leung held on for seven hours, during which his loved ones clasped his hand until the end. The manager added that Leung had often shared his views on life and death with family, close friends and his team. He believed fate governs these things and embraced a romantic outlook, hoping that, when his time came, people would imagine he had simply travelled far away to make another film, preserving a touch of mystery.
