Game Preview: Islanders at Canucks

The Islanders road trip has reached the west coast (10 PM ET, MSGSN2)

The New York Islanders road trip has reached the west coast, as the Isles visit the Vancouver Canucks on Monday night at Rogers Arena.

The Isles are 2-2-1 through five games of their road trip and are looking to rebound from a 4-2 loss to the Calgary Flames on Saturday afternoon.

“It’s a long road trip and we still have a chance to finish it on a high note,” Tony DeAngelo said after Saturday’s game. “[We’re] .500 right now and obviously want to be better than that and still have time to do it.”

Islanders Gameday: Need the points

The Islanders have two games left on the big seven-game trip, with tonight in Vancouver feeling like a “gotta have it” two points. With the Olympic break nearing, these next two games could be big for not only how the trip ledger balances out but also where the season heads. Dan and Mike talk about that on the latest Islanders Anxiety podcast (along with some epic Master-foe Theatre).

Tonight, it’s an opponent (16-27-5, 37 points) that is so far in the league basement, they’re even 11 points behind the “Strongly Worded Letter” Rangers.

Yesterday’s scores were few — evidently there were other sports in action? — but they included Detroit getting an OT win with Ottawa picking up the consolation point.

NY Islanders finish Western Canada part of seven game road trip in Vancouver

The New York Islanders continue their seven-game road trip later tonight when they visit the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena. Face-off is set for 10:00 PM EST.

The Isles are 2-2-1 through the first five games of its seven-game road trip and looks to rebound from a 4-2 loss to the Calgary Flames on Saturday. The Islanders are seeking a stronger finish to the trip after alternating wins and losses so far.

The Islanders held a spirited practice Sunday in Vancouver, with an emphasis on limiting turnovers after being burned in transition against Calgary. “We let up too much last game,” captain Anders Lee said. “We focused on resetting our structure and our thought process, getting back into our D zone. At the end of the day, we just have to take care of the puck a little bit more.”
