Early morning chase led to shelter-in-place order in west Fort Collins

Three people were arrested after a car chase and resulting foot pursuit left residents of a west Fort Collins neighborhood sheltering in place early in the morning Jan. 16.

Just before 2 a.m., Larimer County Sheriff's Office deputies tried to stop a vehicle for traffic violations and suspected DUI near Peterson Street and East Mulberry Street in Fort Collins, according to LCSO Public Information Director Kate Kimble.

Kimble said the driver refused to stop, continued driving west at high speeds and eluded deputies for several miles.

Deputies performed a precision immobilization technique, or PIT, maneuver to stop the vehicle and it crashed on South Overland Trail. The driver and multiple occupants got out, Kimble said, and while two people were detained near the vehicle, two others ran into a nearby neighborhood east of South Overland Trail and north of Drake Road.
