NBA Power Rankings: Suns on the rise, Celtics backslide
The 2026 NBA trade deadline is right around the corner (Feb. 5, 3 p.m. ET) and teams are hitting the midseason mark as the pace is starting to pick up around the league.
The biggest name to kick off this trade season was Trae Young, as the four-time All-Star is now a Washington Wizard after eight seasons with the Atlanta Hawks. But the trade buzz doesn't stop there, as Ja Morant, star guard for the Memphis Grizzlies, is officially available as the team is entertaining trade offers, per ESPN's Shams Charania.
As for the actual standings, keep your eyes on the race for the top six seeds and the play-in in both conferences, as teams have just over 40 games left in the regular season and only a few clear runaways for the top spots.
Power Rankings, Week 13: Thunder back at top amid changed Top 5
OKC surges back into the lead while Detroit, Minnesota, Phoenix and Denver also rise in this week's Top 10.
Devin Booker and the Suns have used a top-flight defense of late to surge into the Top 5 of the Power Rankings.
It may feel like we know everything about the 30 teams listed below, but the 2025-26 season is not quite halfway done.
It is halfway done for the Hawks and Pelicans, both of whom played their 41st game on Sunday. Overall, we’ll hit the halfway point of the season when four of Friday’s six games are complete.
There are still more games to be watched and more data to be mined over the rest of the season than there have been thus far.

Everyone is back to work now, so we can get on with the nasty part of winter. Low temperatures, high winds; the snow isn’t nice to look at anymore; and flaking has extended past the precipitation and onto those plans you had at the end of the week. It’s my least favorite time of the year.
Fortunately, there’s basketball. And not just the trades (although some of you finally were placated there)! The season has not yet reached its midpoint, but this week, we’ll check in on those preseason over/unders from BetMGM (you know, the conventional expectations, not the deep shots I put out in Week 1).
