More than 100,000 El Paso, Texas residents left with little to no water after main break
EL PASO, Texas – More than 100,000 residents in the Texas border city of El Paso were left with little to no water after a main break over the weekend, and it was expected to take till midweek for operations to return to normal, officials said.
The break in the 36-inch water main line happened late Saturday night in El Paso, which has a population of about 700,000, officials said. Gilbert Trejo, an official with El Paso Water, called it “an event of unprecedented proportion." He said the break was made even more impactful because of “the way the pipeline itself was designed along with how different connections of smaller lines were made to it.”
Water main break in Northeast El Paso displaces family of 10
EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — A water main break in Northeast El Paso has left a family of 10 temporarily displaced after their home on Gschwind Street was deemed unlivable.
The incident occurred Saturday night when a 36-inch water pipe broke, affecting thousands of households, according to El Paso Water.
Homeowner Candy Arellano described the scene, "It's really deep. From what I hear, I mean, you could look over myself and my mom’s room, and you can literally see the water like we are on top of a bridge. That’s how bad the water is under."
The break caused a massive hole filled with water, threatening the structure of Arellano's childhood home.
