Celtics at Clippers preview: Kawhi Leonard is on a heater as Boston comes to town

A healthy Kawhi Leonard has put the Clippers on his back — and safe to say its working out.

Los Angeles has made Leonard the focal point of its offense, and the six-time All-Star has his squad on a six-game win streak entering Saturday’s game in Inglewood, Calif.

In just under two weeks, the Clippers have as many victories as they had in two months over the first 27 games.

The team’s run of success started with a 103-88 victory over the Lakers on Dec. 20 that put a light on improved defense. Leonard scored 32 points in that game.

On Sunday, he went for a career-best 55 on Sunday against the Pistons. He’s averaging 39 points per game during the win streak.

The Celtics visit the Los Angeles Clippers for the 2nd, and final, game between these two teams this season. The Celtics won the first game 121-118 in Boston on November 16. The Celtics won the series 2-0 last season. They are 93-46 overall all time against the Clippers and they are 43-28 in games played in Los Angeles.

The Clippers made some changes in the off season. They traded Normal Powell to the Heat in a 3 team trade that brought John Collins to LA from the Jazz. They also traded Mohamed Diawara and Luka Mitrovic to the Knicks for Kobe Sanders and signed him to a 2 way contract. They also signed Brook Lopez, Bradley Beal, and Chris Paul as free agents. They have since sent Chris Paul home and although they haven’t waived him or traded him, he is no longer with the team.

Question Marks: Brown vs. Kawhi and the battles that will decide the game

The Celtics close their road trip with a surprising heavyweight test in Los Angeles, where the Clippers enter riding a six-game winning streak and playing their best basketball of the season. With Kawhi Leonard and Jaylen Brown in a scoring groove, Ivica Zubac returning to the lineup, and Derrick White set to see plenty of James Harden, this matchup offers a useful challenge for Boston against a team that’s quickly finding its rhythm.

At the moment, there may not be a more intriguing wing matchup in the league than Jaylen Brown vs. Kawhi Leonard.

Both players have entered a flow state, carrying their teams with elite three-level scoring. Their overlap is obvious: strength on the ball, comfort creating from anywhere on the floor, and the ability to dictate possessions when the game slows down.
