Another Michigan football starter enters the transfer portal
Michigan football has suffered another departure to the transfer portal, as a two-year starter Zeke Berry, has entered his name into the portal, according to Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports.
Berry, who has started for Michigan football the past two seasons, will have one year left to play after signing with Michigan in the 2022 class.
Berry has been solid at cornerback for the Wolverines. He moved there during the 2024 season, and had 70 tackles, three interceptions and six pass breakups over the past two seasons.
Berry wasn't exactly a name you expected to see in the portal. But with one season left, it makes sense. He could be open to a return, based on who the secondary coach is going to be. Yet, the versatile defensive back, who could play cornerback or safety, will have no shortage of suitors.

Michigan cornerback Zeke Berry plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.
Berry is coming off a redshirt junior season where he started 11 games and was named second-team All-Big Ten by the league’s media and third team by coaches. Across those 11 contests, he finished with 33 total tackles and led the Big Ten with 10 pass breakups.
In 2024, he earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors after totaling 37 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, breaking up nine passes and intercepting two more. In total, he appeared in 37 games across his four seasons in Ann Arbor and is expected to have one year of eligibility remaining.

Berry, a former four-star prospect, appeared in 37 games over four seasons for Michigan with 74 total tackles and three interceptions. Berry has had highs and lows during his Michigan career. While Berry envisioned having the type of versatility and production of former Wolverines great Mike Sainristil, it was often only the versatility on display and not the production. However, perhaps a change of scenery and another year of refining his craft will see Berry become a shutdown corner in the slot and outside.
