Canucks (15-19-3) vs. Kraken (16-14-6) | 7:00 p.m.
One: Keep this rivalry one-sided – Tough to believe this is only the first time the Kraken and Canucks have met this season. The Pacific Northwest rivalry between them has been one-sided of late, with the Kraken going 7-1-2 since the opening months of their playoff season three years ago.
Prior to that, it was all Canucks. But a 5-1 win by Vancouver two years ago at Climate Pledge Arena is the lone regulation victory they’ve managed in the series since October 2022. The Kraken need to keep things that way to build some home momentum heading into the New Year. Right now, the Canucks sport the worst record in the entire NHL and just traded away their best player and captain in defenseman Quinn Hughes.
Canucks' Jake DeBrusk to be healthy scratch vs. Kraken
Jake DeBrusk won't be suiting up for the Vancouver Canucks' game against the Seattle Kraken on Monday.
Head coach Adam Foote told reporters on Sunday that the 29-year-old winger would be a healthy scratch for the matchup, saying he thought it would be "a good reset for him."
DeBrusk, an Edmonton native, has recorded nine goals and eight assists in 37 games this season, while going minus-nine.
Just one of his goals has been scored at even-strength this season.
"Yeah, it sucks, yeah, it's embarrassing," said DeBrusk. "Any time you miss a game, yeah, it's embarrassing. I'd be wrong if I wasn't saying I was pissed off right now, but I understand, and I need a jolt. Obviously haven't been good enough any time you're in this position. I gotta control what I can do from this point forward and just worry about me."

Former Bruins forward healthy scratched — ‘It’s embarrassing’
Jake DeBrusk hasn’t missed a game since signing with the Vancouver Canucks ahead of the 2024-25 season.
The former Boston Bruins forward will be a healthy scratch for Vancouver’s game against the Seattle Kraken.
“I think it’s going to be a good reset for him,” coach Adam Foote told reporters on Sunday.
“It’s embarrassing,” he said. “Anytime you miss a game, it’s, it’s embarrassing. I’d be wrong if I wasn’t saying I’d be pissed off right now, but I understand. And I need a jolt too, I obviously haven’t been good enough. Anytime that you’re in this position, it’s lots of things. So, I gotta control what I can do from this point forward and just worry about me. I think there’s a lot of different things. The good thing about this situation, in my previous times being scratched, you have a clean slate. So I care less about what has happened.”
