Scott Frost set to hire former Wisconsin offensive line coach

Former Wisconsin offensive line coach A.J. Blazek did not take long to find his next coaching gig. According to On3/Rivals, the veteran assistant is set to join Scott Frost's staff at UCF.

Wisconsin recently moved on from Blazek following the 2025 season, hiring former Arkansas OL coach Eric Mateos to take over. The program struggled mightily along the line for much of the 2025 campaign. Improved play at the position is a major key to the team redirecting its trajectory in 2026.

Blazek, meanwhile, will join a UCF program that went 5-7 in 2025; Frost's first season at the helm since 2017. Blazek will notably join former Wisconsin safeties coach Alex Grinch on the Knights' staff. Grinch left Wisconsin after the 2024 campaign to take UCF's vacant defensive coordinator role.

UCF set to hire AJ Blazek as new offensive line coach

UCF is expected to hire veteran offensive line coach AJ Blazek, formerly of Wisconsin, to replace the late Shawn Clark. Blazek brings more than two decades of experience and will lead a rebuild of UCF’s OL following the graduation of five key players.

UCF football hires former Wisconsin assistant as offensive line coach

ORLANDO — Scott Frost filled the second of two open spots on UCF's football coaching staff Monday, Dec. 22.

Veteran offensive line coach AJ Blazek is set to join the Knights for the 2026 season, a team source confirmed to The News-Journal. Blazek — a native of Wichita, Kansas — spent the past two seasons at Wisconsin but was not retained following a 4-8 record.

An All-Big Ten center during his playing days at Iowa, Blazek had prior stints at Vanderbilt, North Dakota State, Rutgers, Western Illinois, Winona State and Fort Hays State. He has coached the last 13 seasons at the Division I level.

“He’s got a feel for people, certainly for the game and specifically what it entails to be a good lineman or a good line coach,” Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel earlier this year. “And that’s not for everybody. That position is not for everybody. But it makes perfect sense for him.”
