Kiss’ ‘Catman’ on new album, Kennedy Center Honor, missing Ace Frehley
That’s certainly been true for Peter Criss, aka the Catman.
Kiss’ original drummer has logged three tenures in the band — out since 2004 but was still inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. He’s survived substance issues, an impersonator during the 1990s and won a battle with breast cancer during the late 2000s, and is still here to tell the tale.
On Dec. 19, the day before he turned 80, Criss — born Peter George John Criscoula and raised in Brooklyn — released “Peter Criss” (Silvercat Records) his sixth solo album and first in 18 years.
He co-produced the 11-song set with Barry Pointer and is joined by guitarists John 5 and Mike McLaughlin, Billy Sheehan on bass and Paul Shaffer on keyboards. Marilyn Manson/Rob Zombie vet Piggy D (Matt Montgomery) plays bass on one track and also designed the package.
Peter Criss Shares What Ace Frehley Told Him About KISS’ Kennedy Center Honors Before His Passing
One day before he turns 80, Criss will release a self-titled rock album, his first in 18 years.
It’s a proverbial December to remember for KISS’ original drummer, Peter Criss.
Consider that in a span of two weeks the drummer, singer and songwriter received a Kennedy Center Honor with the band (which will be televised Dec. 23 on CBS), is releasing his first new album in 18 years on Friday (Dec. 19) and, come Saturday (Dec. 20), celebrates his 80th birthday. It’s all a “never in my wildest dreams” proposition, Criss says, and proof that the Catman isn’t nearly out of lives yet.

‘70s Classic Rock Legend Celebrates 80th Birthday With First Solo Album in 18 Years
Though he recently tragically lost his former fellow KISS bandmate Ace Frehley, Peter Criss celebrated his 80th birthday on Saturday, Dec. 20, the day after he released his first solo album in 18 years.
Criss marked the release and initial success of his self-titled album with a post on his official Instagram with a graphic showing it in the No. 1 spot on the iTunes Rock Albums chart. “WOW!! THANK YOU KISS ARMY!! #1 on the iTunes Rock Charts and #6 across all genres! 💚,” he wrote.
