Man pulls out gun inside Atlanta airport terminal, intentionally shoots self, police say

ATLANTA — A man was arrested on Sunday after police said he intentionally shot himself inside the Atlanta airport terminal.
Atlanta Police said officers responded to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Sunday where they found a man who had suffered a gunshot wound. Through their investigation, police said that 59-year-old Douglas Smith pulled out a handgun and intentionally shot himself in the upper left torso.
Police said the shooting happened near the baggage claim area after Smith had reached the top of the escalator. He was charged with reckless conduct, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

A shooting at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has left one person injured, police confirmed.
ATLANTA – Atlanta police say a 59-year-old man who shot himself Sunday afternoon inside Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is facing multiple felony charges.
Officers were called just after 3:34 p.m. to the upper-level baggage claim area of the South Terminal, where they found Douglas E. Smith with a gunshot wound to his left arm.
He was alert, conscious, and breathing before being taken to a hospital for treatment.
Atlanta Police Major D. Wilson said the shooting happened moments after Smith reached the top of an escalator platform.
