Bichette open to 2B? Plus: The latest on Bregman
When the offseason began, Bo Bichette was the consensus No. 1 choice among all available shortstops, setting him up for a potential bidding war between clubs in need at that position.
As we head toward January, things have changed a bit. Namely the way Bichette is marketing himself.
According to sources, the two-time All-Star has let potential suitors know that he is ready, willing and able to move to second base, the position he played for the first time in his big-league career during this year’s World Series.
“It seems like the message has gotten through to him that teams don’t view him as a shortstop in the long-term – or maybe even in 2026,” one source said. “His willingness to change positions can only help him in the market.”
MLB rumors: Mets, Phillies sign relievers, plus latest on Bo Bichette, Giants, more
The 2025-26 MLB offseason is six weeks old and so far 22 of our top 50 free agents have signed and our No. 1 trade candidate has been dealt. Spring training is two months away and there is still a lot of player movement to come between now and then. Here now are Wednesday's hot stove happenings.
Among the players the Giants are pursuing for their infield is Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. San Francisco is locked into Willy Adames at short and Matt Chapman at third. Hoerner is a standout defender and one of the top contact hitters and baserunners in the sport. His game jibes perfectly with spacious Oracle Park.

Bo Bichette News Could Spell Disaster for Yankees' Jazz Chisholm
The New York Yankees, of course, feel they already have their shortstop of the future in Anthony Volpe (much to fans' dismay.) But, the Pinstripes are also in the market for a superstar hitter, and Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette might just fit the bill, especially after recent comments came to light about him switching positions.
According to MLB insider Mark Feinsand, Bichette is willing to make a change to a different infield position.
“The shortstop market has been terrible, but people are not necessarily looking at Bichette as a shortstop,” Feinsand said (h/t New York Post Sports). “He is starting to tell teams he’s willing to move to second base.”
