DENVER — Xcel shut off power to some residents early Friday as part of a second public safety power shutoff (PSPS) this week aimed to reduce wildfire risk from downed powerlines.

The move comes as tens of thousands of customers remain without power due to planned and unplanned outages that began during Wednesday's strong winds.

As of 7:30 a.m. Friday, Xcel's outage map showed more than 91,000 customers had no power. A majority of those were labeled as unplanned outages, but several were listed as planned, meaning they were part of the public safety power shutoff.
