3 Phillies prospects who could be targeted in the Rule 5 Draft
With the calendar turned to December, the Rule 5 Draft — which takes place Dec. 10 during the Winter Meetings in Orlando, Fla. — is officially near.
Two weeks ago, the Phillies kicked off what should be a busy offseason by adding three prospects to the 40-man roster: top prospect Andrew Painter (MLB No. 16), outfielder Gabriel Rincones Jr. (PHI No. 9) and right-hander Alex McFarlane (PHI No. 20). Those moves protected all three from being selected, but they also left a handful of interesting names unprotected.

Cubs, Astros Complete Trade Sending 0.95 ERA Hurler to Houston
The Houston Astros needed some added talent in their pitching pipeline, and on Thursday, they found some from an intriguing source.
Right-handed 25-year-old hurler Nico Zeglin was signed by the Chicago Cubs as an undrafted free agent last April after pitching three innings in the Mexican League. He went on to have a dream debut season in Low-A and High-A, racking up 66 innings to the tune of a 0.95 ERA and 90 strikeouts.
Unfortunately for Zeglin, that momentum was derailed by an injury that cost him the entire season this year. But those stats are still on his professional track record, and entering his age-26 season, he'll get a chance to keep progressing toward the major leagues with a new organization.
