‘Special day’: Verhaeghe returns to Panthers after birth of son
Panthers forward the latest to join group of dads in the locker room
FORT LAUDERDALE – As any new dad would be, Carter Verhaeghe was beaming.
Returning to the Florida Panthers after a brief absence to welcome the birth of his first child earlier this week, the veteran forward brought good news during Thursday’s morning skate.
His wife, Casey, is doing great, and there’s a new member of the household – Rory.
“There was a lot that went down,” Verhaeghe chuckled while recounting the experience to the media at Baptist Health IcePlex. “I’m just thankful that we got to welcome a baby boy into the world. My wife and I are so proud. I’m so proud of her. It was just a special day.”
Panthers' Sergei Bobrovsky: Starting against Nashville
Bobrovsky will defend the home crease against the Predators on Thursday, George Richards of Florida Hockey Now reports.
Bobrovsky has been in a bit of a skid recently, going 0-3-0 with a 4.53 GAA and .831 save percentage over his last three starts. He'll have a favorable matchup as he attempts to get back on track, as the Predators are scoring just 2.62 goals per game this season, which is tied for the fourth-worst mark in the league.

Carter Verhaeghe News: Rejoins team
Verhaeghe (personal) was on the ice ahead of Thursday's matchup with Nashville, Jameson Olive of the Panthers' official site reports.
Verhaeghe will return following a one-game absence while on paternity leave. Prior to his absence, the 30-year-old forward was in the midst of a hot streak, scoring two goals and four assists in his last three games. Verhaeghe figures to slot into a top-six role and should link up with one of the two power-play units.
