In an SEC filing and accompanying press release today, the company revealed that Executive Vice President, Chief Technology and Product Officer David Ward is resigning to become President and Chief Architect at Salesforce, while board member Jim (James) Fowler will step into Ward’s role as Executive Vice President and Chief Technology & Product Officer (CTPO). Lumen Technologies announced today that Jim Fowler has been appointed Chief Technology & Product Officer, bringing fresh leadership to the telecom giant’s AI-focused network transformation. Dave Ward, the outgoing CTO, departs to join Salesforce as President and Chief Architect, marking a significant leadership transition. This move underscores Lumen’s continued push to position itself as the trusted infrastructure backbone for AI enterprise workloads.
Jim Fowler, age 54, arrives at Lumen Technologies with extensive experience modernizing mission-critical infrastructure. At Nationwide Insurance, he served as Executive Vice President and CTO, leading core technology modernization and scaling intelligent automation across the enterprise.
Before joining Nationwide, Fowler spent nearly two decades at General Electric in senior technology leadership roles, including serving as Global Chief Information Officer. His career began at AT&T in 1993, where he worked in technology operations before transitioning to consulting at Accenture.
