Sonic Drive-Ins continue to close as others sit vacant in San Antonio
Drive-in restaurants are less common now than they used to be in their heyday, but chains like Sonic Drive-In are keeping the concept alive across the United States. In the San Antonio area, however, the story is shaping up differently as more Sonic Drive-In restaurants appear to close across the city.
At least five Sonic restaurants have folded in and around San Antonio since 2024, including locations at 5221 De Zavala Road, 422 S. Zarzamora Street, 6111 Ingram Road, 13131 Nacogdoches Road and 2325 Pat Booker Road.
A number of other locations have been closed for longer and continue to sit vacant and boarded up with for sale signs, like the spot at 1611 S. General McMullen Drive.
