Mavs rookie Flagg misses first game with illness

An illness will sideline Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg for Wednesday's home game against the New York Knicks, coach Jason Kidd said.

Flagg, the No. 1 pick in the 2025 draft, was added to the injury report Wednesday morning along with forward Caleb Martin and did not participate in the team's shootaround.

Flagg had started every game for the 4-11 Mavericks despite dealing with left shoulder soreness and a sprained right thumb that has required him to wear a splint recently.

DALLAS — For the first time this season, the Dallas Mavericks won’t have Cooper Flagg in the lineup.

Flagg will miss the Mavericks’ nationally televised game Wednesday against the New York Knicks with an illness, the team announced. Flagg is averaging 15.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists this season. He leads the Mavericks in total minutes.

Dereck Lively II and Daniel Gafford were listed as probable heading into the Knicks game but will play. Both Mavericks centers missed Dallas’ blowout loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday due to injury management.

Dallas Mavericks star rookie Cooper Flagg ruled out for game vs. the New York Knicks

The Mavericks will be without Cooper Flagg when they take the floor for Wednesday’s game against the New York Knicks.

The 18-year-old rookie forward was downgraded to out because of an illness. He was not present at the team’s shootaround Wednesday morning at American Airlines Center. Caleb Martin will also miss the game with illness.

Flagg played close to 27 minutes in Monday’s 24-point loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, which was the second night of a back-to-back after an overtime win over Portland on Sunday.

Flagg has appeared in all 14 games for the Mavericks despite playing through a right thumb splint, which requires him to wear tape on his hand for four to six weeks. He’s also nursed a left shoulder injury he sustained Oct. 27 against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
