UFC champ Alex Pereira accepts Khamzat Chimaev’s challenge on one condition, ‘Borz’ reponds

It’s been a month since Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight champion Alex Pereira regained his title with a knockout win over Magomed Ankalaev in the main event of UFC 320 (watch highlights). Now, with a potential super fight against Jon Jones at UFC White House still up in the air, it seems Pereira is getting a little bored.

Out of nowhere, the Brazilian powerhouse responded to a month-old challenge from UFC Middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev — and surprisingly, he’s open to meeting “Borz” on his own turf.

“That guy says he wants to fight with me, he’s gotta get out there, understand?” Pereira said. “He’s far, but I could challenge fight in his area if he wants. Let me look at you directly, let’s fight in your area. Let’s fight in grappling. And another thing, we can fight in the UFC. UFC is doing BJJ, right? UFC BJJ. Let’s do that then, let’s make it happen.”

Cimaev won the UFC middleweight title match against Drickers Duplessi in the 5th round and became the champion. It was achieved with nine consecutive wins since entering the UFC.

It's time to rearrange the middleweight. Chimaev, who overpowered both Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland, still has a lot of fighters to deal with. But his eyes are on Alex Pereira, the 'unreasonable man'.

The likely opponent of Cimaev's first defense was Nasurdin Imabov, who destroyed Adesanya and Kaio Bohalyu. But things started to get twisted when he wanted Pereira.

Cimaev's Pereira callout came after he beat Magomed Ankalaev to become the light heavyweight champion again. Cimaev publicly wanted Pereira and was confident he could meet at any weight class. I have now called out even Glover Tesseira, who is retired as a fighter (Chimaev has called out Pereira in the past).

‘Easy money’ – UFC champion Khamzat Chimaev accepts Alex Pereira’s offer for fight in new sport

Khamzat Chimaev has verbally agreed to a grappling match with Alex Pereira.

UFC light heavyweight king Pereira called out middleweight title holder Chimaev this week amid rumours of the pair clashing in a champion-vs-champion super fight.

Pereira reclaimed his throne at 205lbs last month by viciously stopping Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 320, while Chimaev claimed his first title in Dana White's promotion by dominating Dricus du Plessis in August.

After Pereira defeated Ankalaev in Las Vegas, Chimaev, 31, offered the Brazilian fan-favourite a fight, saying the pair had unfinished business.

However, Pereira snubbed Chimaev's callout and responded by declaring he is only interested in moving up to heavyweight, with a fight against Jon Jones his preferred destination.
