When will we get the $2000 tariff dividend payment? Trump stimulus check 2025 eligibility

Wondering about the status on new stimulus check 2025? As of Wednesday, Nov. 12, White House press secretary Karoline Levitt said President Donald Trump remains "committed" to a $2000 tariff rebate dividend payment for most Americans. Here's when and what to know.

"The president made it clear he wants to make it happen," Leavitt told reporters at the White House. "So his team of economic advisers are looking into it."

Leavitt said White House officials are exploring ways to execute Trump's tariff dividend payment plan that he announced would be distributed from tariff revenue. Her comments came in contrast to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's earlier comments about how such a plan might work.

Trump $2,000 Check Update: Proposal Gets Boost From Top Economic Official

A top economic adviser within the Trump administration said there is enough tariff revenue to cover the $2,000 checks that President Donald Trump has proposed handing out to Americans.

“It’s something that will require legislation but if you look at how much tariff revenue has been coming in, then there would actually be enough room to cover those checks and not go into the rest of the budget,” Kevin Hassett, director of the National Economic Council, said while speaking to reporters on Thursday.

Newsweek contacted the White House and Treasury Department via email on Friday.

As tariffs often end up raising prices for everyday Americans, the $2,000 dividends could be a welcome relief to many low to moderate income Americans who have experienced inflation.

Trump promises of direct checks test his economic message

President Donald Trump is stuck on an idea: sending checks to Americans.

A $2,000 “dividend” check using revenue from his global tariffs campaign. A “DOGE savings” payment using 20% of the proceeds from Elon Musk’s budget-cutting initiative. A health care plan that would funnel money away from Affordable Care Act insurance plans and direct it straight to Americans, who might be able to keep any “money left over.”

The White House has yet to release concrete plans on any of it, though press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters on Wednesday that the administration is “currently exploring all legal options” to issue the $2,000 tariff checks.
