‘The age of toys is over’: first Toy Story 5 teaser trailer introduces a new tech foe

The first trailer for Toy Story 5 has provided a brief glimpse at the highly anticipated animated sequel out next summer.
The teaser introduces a new arrival and âall-new threat to playtimeâ with the tagline âthe age of toys is overâ. The latest character is a smart tablet called Lilypad, voiced by Past Lives and Tron: Ares star Greta Lee, bringing new tech to the old toys.
Co-directors Andrew Stanton and McKenna Harris have promised a âplayfully antagonistic toneâ. Stantonâs credits as director include Finding Nemo and Wall-E, while the film will mark Harrisâs directorial debut after having worked on Pixar projects in the past in other roles.

Woody, Buzz and the “Toy Story” gang are back in the first teaser trailer for “Toy Story 5,” the fifth film in Pixar‘s iconic series, set to release on June 19, 2026.
In the trailer, the toys meet Lilypad, “a high-tech, frog-shaped smart tablet that makes Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs exponentially harder when they go head to head with the all-new threat to playtime,” a press release teases. Greta Lee joins the cast to voice the new high-tech toy.
Voice actors Tom Hanks and Tim Allen return as Woody and Buzz, respectively, alongside Joan Cusack as Jessie, Blake Clark as Slinky Dog and Tony Hale as Forky. Conan O’Brien will join the franchise as Smarty Pants, a new character in the series. Andrew Stanton, who helmed “Finding Nemo,” “Wall-E” and “Finding Dory” will direct the film. Stanton co-wrote all four of the previous “Toy Story” films and is credited as the sole screenwriter on “Toy Story 5.”

Pixar on Tuesday dropped the first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5, almost 30 years to the day that the original animated pic hit theaters in November 1995.
Today’s trailer reveals a new nemesis for the gang: Lilypad, an electronic game tablet voice by Past Lives star Greta Lee. She gets unboxed much to the horror of original Toy Story toys (formerly Andy’s toys, now Bonnie’s) Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), Jessie (Joan Cusack) and Forky (Tony Hale), with other characters like Mr Potato Head and Mrs Potato Head, Rex, Slinky Dog, Bullseye and even the plushy alien doll suitably freaking out — all to the sounds of INXS’ “Never Tear Us Apart.”
