Sofía Vergara's new campaign with Skechers was one born out of necessity.

In 2024, the actress, 53, underwent her first knee surgery, and so her search for comfortable shoes began.

"I was going to have to be in tennis shoes for a long time and needed something that I could wear with my dresses and with my jeans," Vergara tells PEOPLE on set of the campaign. "There's something about the memory foam inside the Skechers that is spectacular, and it's really good if you have to stay all day long in your tennis shoes."

Skechers has tapped actress Sofía Vergara as its newest brand ambassador.

According to the now private footwear company, Skechers first caught Vergara’s attention not through business talks, but in a mall. After knee surgery left her searching for supportive shoes, she discovered Skechers on her own – purchasing multiple pairs before learning her team had already been in talks with the brand.

Now, as the latest face of Skechers, Vergara will appear in a new global campaign that “celebrates style, versatility and comfort,” the company noted. The campaign will spotlight Skechers’ Hands-Free Slip-ins Glide-Step styles.

The Modern Family actress has been appointed brand ambassador to the shoe firm after she discovered their products while looking for supportive shoes after undergoing knee surgery.

According to the firm, Sofia had bought multiple pairs of Skechers before discovering her team
had been in talks with the brand, and she will now appear in a new campaign that celebrates the “style, versatility and comfort” of the brand’s Hands-Free Slip-ins Glide-Step styles.

Sofia said in a statement shared with WWD: “I don’t do anything unless I believe in it – and I truly believe in Skechers.
