Anti-Trump groups urge holiday boycott of Amazon, Home Depot, Target over DEI backtrack
A group of grassroots organizations is urging shoppers to boycott major retailers including Amazon, Target and Home Depot that they say caved to President Donald Trump and reneged on pledges to support diversity, equity and inclusion programs.
The “We Ain’t Buying It” nationwide economic pressure campaign is launching ahead of the holiday season “to demonstrate to corporations that there are consequences for not standing up loudly for freedom and core democratic principles of fairness, justice and liberty,” Black Voters Matter, Indivisible and Until Freedom said in a statement.
The idea is for shoppers to boycott the stores during the crucial holiday season. Shoppers surveyed by PricewaterhouseCoopers said they expect to reduce their holiday spending this year on average by 5% compared with last year in the first significant drop since 2020. Retailers are trying to lure in shoppers by kicking off Black Friday early with doorbusters and other deals.

A perfect storm may be brewing for home improvement giant Home Depot (HD) this year, as the confluence of holiday shopping season and ongoing ICE raids hits. The two events are delivering a potential gut punch to Home Depot’s bottom line as a grassroots boycott effort mounts up. Investors did not take the news well either, and shares slipped nearly 2% in Monday morning’s trading.
The effort is known as “We Ain’t Buying It,” and is apparently being led by a collective of grassroots organizations looking to cut off funding to what it believes are organizations in mid-misbehavior. Home Depot is on the hook here, as are both Target (TGT) and Amazon (AMZN). The collective claims the businesses “…caved to President Donald Trump and reneged on pledges to support diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs.

It's perhaps the biggest shopping event of the year, but some consumers are planning to boycott major retailers on Black Friday and Cyber Monday to protest corporate practices.
Throughout the year, several boycotts and economic blackouts have taken place targeting major retailers such as Walmart, Amazon and Target. Spearheaded by The People's Union USA, these spending pauses have lasted anywhere from 24 hours to one week. The People’s Union USA has again launched a blackout in response to what organizers perceive as corporate greed, calling on customers to withhold spending money throughout the entire Black Friday and Cyber Week.
A separate movement called Blackout the System has set its second-wave economic blackout for Nov. 25 through Dec. 2, where people are asked to limit their spending during that time and to instead consider shopping at small businesses.
