Different game, similar frame: 1 inning mars Gausman's gem again vs. Yamamoto
TORONTO – Twice this World Series, Kevin Gausman has gone out and delivered a truly dazzling performance on the mound.
Unfortunately for him and the Blue Jays, those two outings have both been negated by the brilliance of Yoshinobu Yamamoto from the other side. It happened in Game 2, and the rematch in Game 6 produced a nearly identical result.
For five of his six innings pitched on Friday night at Rogers Centre, not only was Gausman perfect with no hits or walks allowed, he was downright filthy. He struck out eight batters through three innings, tying Corey Kluber (2016 Game 1) for the record for most strikeouts in the first three innings of a World Series game, with a splitter that had Dodgers hitters absolutely baffled.

The Athletic has live coverage of Dodgers vs. Blue Jays in Game 7 of the 2025 World Series.
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ season and the last gasp of hope for cementing a dynasty now rests in the hands of Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
The assignment of saving a team billed as a juggernaut but now facing the end of its season is the kind that forges legacies and can break wills, the kind of pressure that buries you if you let it. It should not be all up to Yamamoto, though a combustible bullpen and dormant lineup have made it so.
