“It Was A Way For Me To Process What Was Happening”: Lily Allen On Marriage, Motherhood And Her Music Comeback
Lily Allen opens the front door of the Georgian townhouse sheâs calling home for the summer with a âHiyaâ and a hug and beckons me in, vape in hand. Sheâs wearing a well-worn grey-marl Miu Miu polo, bottle-green pleated mini, black tights and stompy platform boots, looking a little out of place, perhaps, in the cartoonishly quaint la-di-da-ness of Bath, where sheâs living while she stars in Matthew Dunsterâs Ibsen adaptation, Hedda, at the Theatre Royal. But actually, she tells me, leaning against the kitchen counter of her high-ceilinged Regency rental and flicking the kettle on to make us tea, her first husbandâs father lived nearby so sheâs not so much a fish out of water. And anyway, âI do the same thing wherever I am,â she says, rustling in a plastic bag for a fresh Lost Mary (triple melon). âIâm just on my laptop, doomscrolling.â And to do that, she continues through a mouthful of pistachios, that signature Allen cynicism ratcheting up a notch, âIt doesnât matter where you are!â

Lily Allen Alludes to Downfall of David Harbour Marriage
Lily Allen shared insight into how her forthcoming album is a reflection on the end of her marriage to David Harbour, and the emotional challenges she was facing at the time.
Eight months after she and estranged husband David Harbour broke up, Lily shared insight into how her forthcoming album pulls back the curtain on the end of their four-year marriage.
“I made this record in December 2024 and it was a way for me to process what was happening in my life,” she told British Vogue in an interview published Oct. 17. “There are things that are on the record that I experienced within my marriage, but that’s not to say that it’s all gospel. It is inspired by what went on in the relationship.”
