New 'Starting 5' season begins in most painful way possible for Pacers fans
Indiana Pacers fans would like to put Game 7 of the NBA Finals behind them. Unfortunately, the opening seconds of the new season of the Netflix documentary Starting 5 forces everyone to relive the painful moments where Tyrese Haliburton and the hopes and dreams of Pacers fans collapsed to the ground.
Season 1 of Starting 5 was a hit success for Netflix, following five NBA stars during the 2023-24 NBA season. Netflix brought it back for a second season, and something Pacers fans are not used to happened: a Pacer was chosen as one of the NBA's biggest stars.
It was a prescient decision for Netflix, as Haliburton became the story of the NBA postseason. He turned around a slow start to the season and led Indiana into the postseason on a hot streak. That continued in a major way int he actual playoffs, with Haliburton turning into a superhero and hitting multiple game-winning shots as the pacers pulled off magical wins mixed in with dominant two-way performances to knock off the likes of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Donovan Mitchell and Jalen Brunson en route to the NBA Finals.

“And I think even when I got hurt, when I was overcome …
“And I think even when I got hurt, when I was overcome with emotion, it was more about that game and the championship. Because I know, I have the utmost faith that I’m going to come back and be better and be able to get right back and do the same things I was doing before the injury. I have no doubt about that. I think a lot of the grief for me was the series itself, the championship, because it felt like it was right there. “And I don’t think I’ll ever be over it, if I’m being honest. I’ll never be fully over it and just be able to move on. It’s really hard, but the plan and the goal in life is to get right back there and obviously reach the mountaintop. So I know it takes some time, but I definitely still have days and nights and moments where I think a lot about that series, so that’s what I think I grieve more than anything.”
