Guard Lonzo Ball feels Cavs-Bulls trade resulted in win for both teams

On June 28, news broke that he was headed to the Cavaliers for Isaac Okoro, ending his stay with the Bulls. The problem is, Fiji is 17 hours ahead, so Ball was fast asleep.
But, honestly, Ball had a feeling back in February, when he signed a two-year, $20 million extension to stay a Bull. It was a team-friendly deal that he knew would be perfect in a trade.
Lonzo Ball Gets Honest About Bulls Trading Him Away
When he agreed to a four-year, $80 million deal with the Chicago Bulls in the summer of 2021, 3-and-D point guard Lonzo Ball helped usher in a dominant half-season of basketball for the Windy City. He and fellow ex-Los Angeles Lakers guard Alex Caruso, another key new signing, cultivated a ruthless defensive attack along the perimeter.
All-Star swingman DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine and former All-Star center Nikola Vucevic helped supply the offense.

When Lonzo Ball signed a team-friendly two-year extension with the Bulls in February, he knew that he’d probably be in a different uniform before it expired, writes Joe Cowley of The Chicago Sun-Times. A $10MM annual salary with a club option in 2026/27 made Ball extremely attractive to contenders, and the Cavaliers were the first to pounce, sending Isaac Okoro to Chicago in a July trade.
Ball is happy to be with a contender in Cleveland, and he believes both teams benefited from the deal.
“I think teams trade to try to get better, so Chicago did what was best for them, and I think Cleveland did what they thought was best for them,” Ball said. “So all I can control is where I’m at and who I’m playing for, and that’s the Cavs right now. Go out there and give them my all.”
