Weather Alert: Late weekend Nor'easter
Our holiday weekend weather starts off nicely with seasonable temperatures Saturday afternoon under increasing clouds.
But a developing storm off the Florida coast moves north starting Saturday, bringing rain and increasingly gusty wind to our area by Sunday afternoon and evening, prompting a Weather Alert.
The biggest impact from this storm will be on the marine community with offshore wave heights building to 15feet.
Minor coastal flooding is possible across a couple of high tide cycles, primarily on Monday (2am and 2pm high tide cycles).
In terms of wind, the highest wind potential looks to occur across the islands, where gusts of 50+mph are possible on Monday.
Jacksonville faces a messy little weekend: meteorologist warns of rain, wind, and flooding
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – I’ll be honest with you, it’s just a nasty day out there across Jacksonville and all the nearby neighborhoods. The rain is relentless, the wind is howling, and everywhere you look, the sky stays cloudy and gray.
I know you, like me, might want to stay inside and ride it out. This storm is putting a damper on plans, but sometimes, a lazy day is just what we need.
Let’s talk specifics on what’s happening around our area. Yesterday, the Bridge of Lions in St. Augustine had to close due to tidal flooding—definitely one of the more dramatic impacts of this weekend’s system. I also checked our live cams and saw choppy, white-topped waves at St. Augustine Marina and Doctors Lake Marina. Winds have been steady around 13 mph, with temperatures in the low 60s this morning.
