MMOFPS Reaper Actual begins its ‘foundation alpha’ today – here’s how much it costs and when it’s online
Over the past several days, John Smedley’s Distinct Possibility Studios has talked up the start of paid alpha for Reaper Actual, the in-development extraction MMOFPS that drops players into the fictional island of Marova to fight against hundreds of NPC enemies and other players – while also being linked to the blockchain. For a while there, we weren’t familiar with just how much access to this alpha would cost, just that it would cost money and would be provided in limited quantities.
At last, on the very early horizon of this paid alpha, the studio has fully unveiled those prices and updated on the game’s site accordingly: The first batch of these alpha bundles, aka Foundation Alpha Series 1 bundles, are priced at $30 for the standard edition, $50 for the Charon’s Pact edition, and $75 for the Stygian Oath edition. As reported previously, each bundle will have a different number of characters and base unlocks, with the higher priced versions obviously granting more; the Stygian Oath bundle provides access to a guild-sized warehouse base, for example.

Tezos Shooter ‘Reaper Actual’ From EverQuest Co-Creator Enters Alpha Playtesting
Video game veteran John Smedley—who helped build fan-favorites EverQuest, H1Z1, and PlanetSide—debuted his crypto open-world persistent shooter Reaper Actual on Wednesday in what is branded as a “Foundation Alpha” playtesting phase.
Smedley has previously faced backlash from his non-crypto gaming fanbase due to Reaper Actual’s use of crypto, although it is entirely optional. He has previously estimated that only 8% of the player base will use the NFT marketplace, where they can trade in-game characters, bases, and cosmetics.
“Reaper Actual is first and foremost a skills-based shooter, and that will never change. But building on Etherlink with the help of Sequence lets us give players something unprecedented: true ownership of their in-game assets,” Smedley, CEO of Distinct Possibility Studios, told Decrypt. “For example, just like you can buy and sell a home in the real world, you'll be able to do the same with your bases in Reaper Actual.”
