One more gorgeous day of summer warmth and sunshine before late-day rain and thunder
A strong cold front will bring increasing clouds, scattered to widespread rain, and ultimately very cool, autumn air back into New England starting tonight.
Boston and Coastal New England should hold onto the sunshine the longest. Highs will reach 80 in Boston and inland areas, and the upper 70s elsewhere. Scattered showers and thunder will move into Vermont and Western Massachusetts late afternoon, and then closer to Boston at night. Greater Boston should stay dry until at least 9 p.m., while areas west may see showers closer to 7 p.m. The heavier rain moves in pre-dawn Wednesday and lasts until about noon.
NYC area bracing for rain to arrive tonight. First Alert Weather Day issued for Wednesday morning commute.
New York City and the surrounding area saw a stretch of summer-like days to start October. But as they say, all good things must come to an end.
We've got a First Alert Weather Day on Wednesday, as rain arrives with some weather whiplash.
Showers are working their way through this morning, with embedded bouts of moderate to heavy rain.
That said, the focus of the alert will be during the morning commute, with the expectation that things will be a little slower on the roads.
Thankfully, the rain is expected to exit by this afternoon, but don't expect the temperatures to recover — 70° if we're lucky.

Scattered showers return late today
For your Tuesday evening ahead, expect some warm, muggy, and wet conditions for most of us. Lows tonight dip to the 60s and if you’re not seeing rain, humidity gives way to a sticky feel.
Showers continue overnight tonight and into your Wednesday morning. It’s shaping up to be a soggy commute into the office for our northernmost counties. Rain tapers off by mid-morning, and then we’ll be dry for several days.
The highest chance of rainfall looks to take place tonight and overnight into the first part of Wednesday. Watch for wet road conditions during your commute tomorrow morning!
