Week 5 Thursday Injury Report: Chuba Hubbard remains sidelined

CHARLOTTE — The Panthers were without four players in practice on Thursday, as running back Chuba Hubbard (calf) remained sidelined for the second straight day.

Panthers head coach Dave Canales described his starting running back as "day-to-day" on Wednesday. Hubbard was listed as questionable with the same issue last week, but played.

Also not participating in Thursday's practice were defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton (toe), cornerback Chau Smith-Wade (chest), and tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders (ankle).

Outside linebacker D.J. Wonnum (hip) was limited again Thursday, but everyone else on the report was a full participant.

Chuba Hubbard is expected to miss Week 5

The Panthers are set to be without running back Chuba Hubbard on Sunday.

NFL Media reports that Hubbard is expected to miss their game against the Dolphins because of a calf injury. Hubbard has not taken part in practice at all this week.

Rico Dowdle is the No. 2 running back for the Panthers and he will take on a larger role with Hubbard out of the lineup. Trevor Etienne and DeeJay Dallas are the other running backs on the roster in Carolina.

Hubbard has 53 carries for 217 yards this season and Dowdle has 28 carries for 83 yards and a touchdown.

Panthers provide injury update on RB Chuba Hubbard for Week 5

Although Wednesday's practice for the Carolina Panthers was just considered a walk-through, the "absence" of running back Chuba Hubbard isn't necessarily great.

Hubbard was one of five players estimated as a non-participant for this afternoon's session. The fifth-year rusher is currently dealing with a calf injury, one that surfaced in the lead-up to this past week's outing against the New England Patriots.

Head coach Dave Canales provided a little context on Hubbard's situation following practice.

"The calf needs more treatment. The calf needs more time," Canales told reporters. "And so, we're just taking it day to day with Chuba right now. We needed to get him a rest day today, not put him out there and try to get him on the other side of it.
