Trump Ratings and U.S. Mood Stay Tepid in August

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A new Gallup poll finds 40% of Americans approving of President Donald Trump’s overall job performance, in line with support for him in June and July after registering 43% or higher in the first five months of the year.

Similar percentages of Americans in the Aug. 1-20 survey back Trump’s performance on the economy (37%) and foreign affairs (39%). Neither rating has changed meaningfully over the past month, but each is five percentage points below its high point in February.

Meanwhile, as students return to classrooms across the country, 38% of U.S. adults approve of Trump’s handling of education, including 41% of parents of children attending K-12 school. This is Gallup’s first rating of Trump on education during his second term.

Why Trump's latest polling lie about high approval is so grim

President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social on Sunday night, “Except what is written and broadcast in the Fake News, I now have the highest poll numbers I’ve ever had, some in the 60’s and even 70’s. Thank you. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”

Once again Trump appears to be making up flattering facts. But his old habit hits differently in this chapter of his presidency, as he carries out a playbook designed to subvert the functioning of our democracy.

I find it harder to laugh off Trump's misinformation and disinformation about his purported popularity the way I once did.

New poll shows more Americans 'strongly disapprove' of Trump's second term: What to know

Twice as many Americans say they strongly disapprove of President Donald Trump's second term than those who strongly approve, according to a new poll.

In a survey from YouGov and The Economist, conducted Aug. 15-18, two-thirds of respondents said they have strong feelings about Trump − and, increasingly, most of them are negative. The poll found 47% said they strongly disapprove of the second-term president, compared to 23% who say they strongly approve.

About 70% of Americans say they either "strongly approve" or "strongly disapprove" of Trump's job performance, while 27% say they have a more muted opinion of the president. That includes people who either "somewhat approve" or "somewhat disapprove."
