Players and caddies wore neon yellow ribbons during the final round of the TOUR Championship in honor of Ted Scott’s nephew, Joel, who is recovering from an injury.

Scott, Scottie Scheffler's longtime caddie, left the FedEx St. Jude Championship unexpectedly to attend to a family private matter and was not on the bag for Scheffler during his BMW Championship victory. Scott returned for the TOUR Championship this week. The Scott family has requested prayers for Joel at this time.

Why Scottie Scheffler was rooting for Rory McIlroy’s miracle break at East Lake

Despite battling for the FedEx Cup title, Scottie Scheffler was rooting for Rory McIlroy late on Thursday at the 2025 Tour Championship.

The opening round of the 2025 Tour Championship saw the world’s best players — Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy — duke it out in the same pairing. While their rounds were full of high moments, the highlight was an incredible break McIlroy received on the 18th hole.

But despite Rory being his primary competition for the FedEx Cup this week, Scheffler was surprisingly more than happy when McIlroy’s wayward shot went from disaster to birdie, thanks to some help from a grandstand at East Lake.
