Source: Pats WR Polk to have shoulder surgery
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — New England Patriots wide receiver Ja'Lynn Polk, the 2024 second-round pick who is hoping to rebound from a challenging rookie season in which he was limited to 12 receptions for 87 yards, will undergo shoulder surgery that could threaten his 2025 season, a source confirmed to ESPN.
How long the injury ultimately sidelines Polk, and if he could potentially return at some point later in the season, will be contingent on what doctors find in surgery, a source said.
The injury occurred in the Patriots' preseason opener Aug. 8 when Polk was tackled on a 1-yard run around left end by Washington Commanders defensive back Noah Igbinoghene and landed on his right side. Polk immediately came out of the game, holding his right arm, and hasn't practiced since.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. â Patriots wide receiver JaâLynn Polk will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery, a league source confirmed Thursday.
The team plans to place the 23-year-old Polk on injured reserve.
The news is discouraging for Polk, who was hoping to reset this season following an underwhelming rookie year.
Polk practiced for two weeks this summer â he had missed the first four days of training camp while recovering from a different offseason shoulder procedure â before suffering the injury in the preseason opener against Washington on Aug. 8.
On the play, Polk took a handoff and ran to the sideline for a 1-yard gain. As he attempted to fight for more yards, he tried to stiff-arm Commanders cornerback Noah Igbinoghene and ended up landing hard on his shoulder on the tackle. Polk hasnât returned to the field since.
