Severe thunderstorm watch in Twin Cities

MINNEAPOLIS (FOX 9) – Strong storms are rolling into the Twin Cities metro, bringing heavy rain and hail. 

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for a large portion of southern Minnesota, including in the Twin Cities, and Wisconsin until 11 p.m.

FOX 9 Meteorologist Cody Matz says we'll have pockets of heavy rainfall across Minnesota throughout the weekend and possibly even a few severe thunderstorms.

Severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued for Carver, Dakota, Hennepin and Scott Counties until 5:30 p.m. 

A severe thunderstorm warning has also been issued for Pierce and Washington Counties until 5:45 p.m.

Hail has been reported in Woodbury and Cottage, and on the other side of the metro in Waconia. 

FORECAST FIRST ALERT: Strong storms and heavy rain overnight and early Saturday

Minnesota’s Weather Authority has issued a Forecast First Alert for overnight and early Saturday. Strong storms are expected to develop with the potential of high wind and localized flash flooding.

Friday has already been a warm and humid day with highs in the upper 80s. This has lead to an unstable airmass that has already produced thunderstorms across parts of the metro earlier this afternoon. As the evening progresses, a few more thunderstorms can’t be ruled out, and some could be strong, but a lot of the evening will remain dry for most.
