Live updates: Track FedEx St. Jude final round as FedExCup top-50 bubble heats up

FedEx St. Jude Championship .css-1q6ymfx{width:1.6rem;height:1.6rem;display:inline-block;line-height:1em;-webkit-flex-shrink:0;-ms-flex-negative:0;flex-shrink:0;color:#000000;vertical-align:middle;}

There’s plenty to play for during the FedEx St. Jude Championship’s final round at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee.

The Memphis heat will not be the only thing that has golfers sweating on Sunday. Players across the FedEx St. Jude leaderboard will be competing to keep their season alive and to set up next season, as well. After the final putt drops Sunday, only the top 50 of the FedExCup standings will move on to the second FedExCup Playoffs event at the BMW Championship.

Rory's absence at St. Jude alarms policy director

Rory McIlroy's decision to skip the first leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs — the FedEx St. Jude Classic — has left a PGA Tour Policy Board player director "very concerned" and could potentially lead to rule changes moving forward.

The world No. 2 and reigning Masters champion took advantage of a loophole in the new playoff format and decided not to play in the event this week. The top 70 in the FedEx Cup qualify — Rory is currently No. 2 — for the St. Jude, with the top 50 then moving on to the BMW Championship before the top 30 vie for the Tour Championship.

Is PGA Tour planning to implement a 'Rory McIlroy rule' so players can't skip playoffs?

Rory McIlroy is skipping the FedEx Cup’s first playoff – the event sponsored by the PGA Tour’s biggest sugar daddy, FedEx.

McIlroy, the reigning Masters champion and world No. 2, is the only eligible player from the field of 70 that is skipping out on the $20 million purse at this week’s FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis at TPC Southwind.

Peter Malnati, a player director on the PGA Tour Policy Board, was asked if he was concerned that one of the top players elected not to compete in one of the three legs of the FedEx Cup playoffs.

This year is considered a bridge year for the FedEx Cup playoffs and the Tour Championship, in particular. After several months of debating numerous potential formats, the Tour reached an unanimous decision to ditch the much-beleaguered Starting Strokes format and reinstitute a format where all 30 contestants that make it to East Lake for the final leg of the playoffs will begin the 72-hole stroke-play championship at even par.
