Delco native pitches against Savannah Bananas at Citizens Bank Park for sold out games
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — The Phillies may be out of town this weekend, but the bats won't be taking a break around here.
The Savannah Bananas and Texas Tailgaters are taking over Citizens Bank Park in two sold-out games Saturday and Sunday.
Since he was 6 years old, Sperone, from Broomall, had a love for baseball. His skills earned him a spot on the West Chester University team and Staten Island Ferry Hawks. He quit his office job last year to pursue his passion.
"Ever since I was young, it was always a dream to play in sold-out MLB stadiums, especially Citizens Bank Park," said Sperone.
SUN: The Savannah Bananas come to Camden Yards in a week. Here’s how to watch
Camden Yards will be sold out next weekend, and the Orioles will be on the road.
The Savannah Bananas, a baseball team that draws comparisons with the Harlem Globetrotters and travels the country playing exhibition games, will visit Baltimore on Aug. 1 and 2. While the games are sold out, some (pricey) tickets remain on the secondary market.
Hereâs how to watch the Bananas when they visit Camden Yards. Both games are scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
Tickets are only available via third-party sites like Stubhub. The Bananas recommend buying tickets through the teamâs lottery system, but with those sold out, itâs likely some fans will turn toward the secondary market. If they do, theyâll be facing a steep price.

Delco’s Joe Sperone quit his job to chase his dream with the Savannah Bananas
Sperone thought his baseball dream had ended. Then the Bananas called, and his life changed instantly.
Joe Sperone was working last year at a mortgage brokerage in Conshohocken and believed his baseball career ended in September with a few-week stint on Staten Island in one of the lower rungs of professional ball where the crowds were sparse and the checks were thin.
And that would have been OK. Those two games with the Staten Island FerryHawks meant Sperone, who grew up in Broomall and pitched at Cardinal OâHara and West Chester University, could always say he played professionally.
But then he received a call from the Savannah Bananas, the viral sensation often described as baseballâs version of the Harlem Globetrotters that has a waiting list for tickets and will play Saturday and Sunday at sold-out Citizens Bank Park. They wanted him.
