Braves Acquire Erick Fedde

The Braves have acquired right-hander Erick Fedde in a trade with the Cardinals, FanSided’s Robert Murray reports.  Some money is also headed to Atlanta in the deal, with ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez reporting the Cards will be covering the approximately $2.7MM remaining on Fedde’s $7.5MM salary for the 2025 season.  The deal has been officially announced by the Braves, including the detail that the Cards will receive cash considerations or a player to be named later in return.

The corresponding move to fit Fedde into Atlanta’s roster is also noteworthy, as the Braves announced that right-hander Grant Holmes was placed on the 60-day injured list.  Holmes was placed on the 15-day IL just earlier today due to right elbow inflammation, and the move to the 60-day will effectively end Holmes’ season.

Erick Fedde traded to Braves: Cardinals move struggling starting pitcher to Atlanta

The Atlanta Braves have acquired veteran right-handed starter Erick Fedde from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for cash or a player to be named later. The Braves, who announced the trade on Sunday, will also receive cash considerations in the trade. Earlier in the week, the Cardinals designated the struggling Fedde for assignment.

In order to make room for Fedde on the 40-player roster, the Braves transferred right-hander Grant Holmes to the 60-day injured list.

The 32-year-old Fedde in 2025 has pitched to a 5.22 ERA/79 ERA+ in 20 starts for the Cardinals. He's also struggled with his control and command, as he's put up 63 strikeouts against 46 unintentional walks in 101 ⅔ innings. He's owed the balance of a $7.5 million salary for this year and is eligible for free agency this coming offseason.

Cubs Should Go After Hated Rival's Former Star Pitcher After Shocking DFA

The Chicago Cubs have long been expected to be one of baseball's most aggressive teams at next week's trade deadline, especially when it comes to upgrading their pitching staff.

With a championship lineup but a rotation which is thin at best, as things currently stand it will be tough to make a deep run in October against what is a loaded National League.

The Cubs would love to go out and land another ace to join the top of the rotation. How realistic that is to materialize over the next five or six days remains to be seen. As has been the case throughout the process, the demand for starting pitching is much higher than the supply.
