Betts out Fri. for personal matter, unsure for Sat.
Mookie Betts did not travel with the Dodgers and will not play Friday night when Los Angeles faces the host Boston Red Sox as he deals with a personal matter, manager Dave Roberts told reporters Friday.
Roberts said he is unsure whether Betts will be in the lineup Saturday, though Betts is expected to arrive in Boston around the 7:15 p.m. ET start of that night's game.
"There might be some things going on that he might not be around, that he's got to deal with personally," Roberts said following Wednesday's 4-3 win over the visiting Minnesota Twins in which Betts started a ninth-inning rally with a two-out infield single. "Everything is OK with him, but yeah, we'll see."
Dodgers star Mookie Betts away from team due to personal reasons vs. Red Sox Friday
Former Red Sox and current Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts is not at Fenway Park for the clubs’ series-opening game Friday due to personal reasons.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Thursday that he anticipated Betts, 32, would not be with the team for the first game of the weekend series in Boston.
“There might be some things going on that he might not want to be around, that he’s got to deal with personally,” Roberts said (via MLB.com’s Sonja Chen). “Everything is OK with him, but yeah, we’ll see.”
Pregame Friday, Roberts explained that Betts is at his home in Nashville. Roberts said he expects Betts to rejoin Los Angeles around game time on Saturday, but isn’t sure if he’ll be in the lineup for the second game of the three-game set.
