Saturday is for the buzz? Fox Sports inks TV deal with Barstool Sports, Dave Portnoy

Fox Sports has completed a major deal with Barstool Sports. The agreement calls for the company’s founder, Dave Portnoy, to become a regular on Fox’s premier Saturday college football pregame show, “Big Noon Kickoff.”

On weekdays, Portnoy and top personalities, like Portnoy and Dan (Big Cat) Katz, will part of a Barstool-produced daily show on FS1 that is expected to compete directly with ESPN’s “Get Up,” hosted by Mike Greenberg, and Stephen A. Smith’s “First Take.

While Portnoy’s move to “Big Noon Kickoff” does feel like a direct response to Pat McAfee’s success on ESPN’s “College GameDay,” Portnoy’s role will likely be more of a voice of the fan; especially with Fox owning the biggest Big Ten games, including Michigan versus Ohio State, and Portnoy being a Michigan alum. McAfee is an every-segment panelist on “GameDay.”

Fox Nearing Deal for Dave Portnoy on ‘Big Noon,’ Barstool on FS1

Portnoy would join the network’s flagship CFB show. Barstool content is expected to fill some FS1 airtime vacated by three canceled shows.

Fox Sports is poised to make another big bet on Big Noon.

The network is nearing an expansive deal with Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy that would include him appearing on its college football pregame show. The deal would also involve Barstool content being featured on FS1, sources told Front Office Sports.

The deal has not been finalized, and a Fox Sports spokesperson declined to comment.

Fox introduced its Big Noon college football window in 2019. Traditionally, all the best college football games had been stacked in windows later in the afternoon and evening. Seeing the annual ratings success of Michigan–Ohio State, Fox posited that it could garner higher viewership for its top Big Ten or Big 12 game of the week by programming it against lesser competition from rival networks. At the same time, it launched the Big Noon Kickoff pregame show to go head-to-head with ESPN’s College GameDay.
