Schauffele offloads trophies, unsure where gold is
PORTRUSH, Northern Ireland — Don't feel bad for Xander Schauffele having to return the Claret Jug when he arrived at Royal Portrush to defend his title in the Open Championship. It's not as if he had anywhere to keep it.
Schauffele has won eight times in his PGA Tour career, including The Open, the PGA Championship and the Tour Championship. There's also the Olympic gold medal from Tokyo in 2021.
Where to keep it all? Not at his house. Schauffele said his parents keep all his trophies, "probably in a bank vault." They have a home in San Diego, and his father is building a place on Kauai, living in what Stefan Schauffele calls "the container."

“I had a little tequila there in Portugal,” he said. “I’ve had wine out of it, but not too much. I don’t drink a whole lot. I definitely drank more after a few championships last year.
“Yeah, bummer to give up the trophy this year. Looking forward to trying to get it back.”
Of course he would. Returning the Claret Jug means your run as Open Championship winner is over, and a new Open is here — and it will be starting Thursday at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland. And yet, should you want to know where Schauffele keeps the replica afforded to the winner, or any of his trophies, he’d be stumped. Tuesday, he guessed they were at his parents’ house. Don’t bother asking about his Olympic gold medal, either.

British Open: Xander Schauffele has ‘no idea’ where his gold medal is from his Olympics win
Xander Schauffele won the men’s golf tournament at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, marking one of the many victories he’s claimed throughout his professional career. Several years later, Schaffele doesn't know where that gold medal — something that’s seen as one of, if not the most meaningful award in sports — is located.
“I actually have no idea where that is, to be completely honest,” Schauffele revealed Tuesday ahead of the British Open at Royal Portrush.
While that sounds wild on its face, Schauffele deserves grace here. It’s not like he only misplaced his gold medal. He doesn’t have any of the trophies he’s won throughout his career. If anything, he said, they’re at his parents’ house “probably in a bank vault.”
