Another 'X-Men' Candidate for Jean Grey Has Emerged…And She Would Be One Elle of a Choice

The X-Men are officially on their way back to the big screen and the casting rumors are a dime a dozen. Fans are hyped to have the mutant gang back in the film world, but can't quite put their finger on who Marvel will cast in the historical roles. While X-Men 97' creator Bea DeMayo has already shared his harsh thoughts on Thunderbolts' director Jake Schreier being in line to direct the X-Men feature film, it seems like Marvel is going forward with Schreier as director. But who will play the iconic roles this time around? Well, one new actress has been thrown in the mix for one of the most powerful mutants of all, and she might just be the perfect pick.

RUMOR: Elle Fanning May Be In The Mix To Play Jean Grey In Marvel's X-MEN Reboot

The news cycle has understandably been dominated by Superman over the past couple of weeks, so we thought we'd break things up a little with a good ol' X-Men casting rumor.

Now that Marvel Studios' long-awaited reboot has assigned a director in Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*), casting is expected to begin very soon (if it hasn't already), and we now have another name to add to the list of actors that have been mentioned in connection with the key role of Jean Grey.

On this week's episode of The Hot Mic, Jeff Sneider mentioned that Elle Fanning might be in the mix to play the powerful mutant, who was previously portrayed in live-action by Famke Janssen in the original 20th Century Fox movies and Sophie Turner in X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix.

Comic-Con 2025 Schedule: ‘Star Trek,’ ‘Alien: Earth,’ ‘Tron: Ares’ and George Lucas’ First-Ever Appearance

San Diego Comic-Con is rolling out its schedule for the 2025 convention this week, which runs from July 24–27. It will likely be a quieter convention this year, since neither Marvel Studios nor DC Studios are planning a major panel. But for the first time in its history, “Star Wars” creator George Lucas will appear in person at the largest annual fan gathering in North America, to give a first look at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, which is expected to open in Los Angeles in 2026. He’ll be joined in Hall H by director Guillermo del Toro, visual designer Doug Chiang and moderator Queen Latifah.
