Mariners Game #91 Preview: 7/8, SEA at NYY
If the Mariners beat the Yankees tonight, they’ll both be tied in standings, either with the Rays for the first Wild Card position or just behind. There are at least four teams vying for the three Wild Card spots in the American League, making this series relatively important towards the Mariners playoff odds. The Yankees took two of three from the Mariners in a close series in early May.
This is also a chance for Cal Raleigh to gain some ground on Aaron Judge in the (f)WAR for AL MVP. Raleigh closed the gap a bit with a scorching June that earned him AL Player of the Month, while Judge “slumped” by his standards. But Judge has gotten hot again with three home runs in six games in July. Raleigh still leads Judge by two home runs.

Today on Pinstripe Alley – 7/8/25
It’s always good to win the one before an off day. The Yankees had a miserable week, but at least they ended it with a win on Sunday, giving us two whole days to bask in the glory of Yankee victory. But the work starts back up today, and there has to be a sense of urgency, with the Yankees in danger of going into the All-Star Break staring at a non-trivial deficit in the AL East. They’ll face the Mariners tonight, with the excellent Logan Gilbert facing off with Will Warren.
Ahead of the matchup with Seattle, catch Josh’s preview of the three-game set. Also, Madison will recap Monday night’s AL action, and Jeff will write the latest entry in the 2000 Yankees diary. And don’t miss Nolan’s recap of the last week on the Yankees farm, which featured plenty to get excited about, like Cam Schlittler’s last outing before getting called up for the first time, more highlights from Spencer Jones, and a wonder day from Everson Pereira.
