Live coverage: SpaceX to launch 28 Starlink satellites on Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral

SpaceX launched its latest batch of broadband internet satellites onboard its Falcon 9 rocket in a predawn Falcon 9 launch on Tuesday.

The mission, dubbed Starlink 10-28, carried 28 satellites into low Earth orbit. Liftoff from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station occurred at 4:21 a.m. EDT (0821 UTC).

SpaceX used Falcon 9 first stage booster B1077 on this mission, which was launching for a 22nd time. Its previous missions include NASA’s Crew-5, GPS III Space Vehicle 06 and 17 previous batches of Starlink satellites.

A little more than eight minutes after liftoff, B1077 landed on the droneship, ‘A Shortfall of Gravitas.’ It was the 117th touchdown for this vessel and the 473rd booster landing for SpaceX to date.

Launch Roundup: Falcon 9 flies 500th orbital mission during quiet week

In a quiet week for rocket launches worldwide, SpaceX has launched the 500th orbital flight of a Falcon 9 during its first of possibly two launches this week. Outside of the U.S., Gilmour Space is expected to attempt to launch the first flight of its Eris launch vehicle from Australia.

As many as 10 orbital launches have typically taken place from sites across the world in recent weeks. Of these, the Starlink Group 15-7 mission was the last orbital launch to take flight during the first half of 2025, and marked the 500th launch of a Falcon 9, when including 2020’s suborbital Crew Dragon in-flight abort test. It also set a new milestone when booster B1067 became the first in the fleet to fly 29 times.

SpaceX targeting rocket launch Tuesday morning for Starlink satellite mission at Cape Canaveral

(This story has been updated with new launch target and weather forecast information.)

In another post-midnight launch, SpaceX is targeting Tuesday, July 8, for an early morning Falcon 9 rocket liftoff from Florida's Space Coast.

This Starlink 10-28 mission will lift another payload of 28 broadband satellites on a northeasterly trajectory into low-Earth orbit. Target liftoff time: 4:21 a.m.

A Federal Aviation Administration operations plan advisory listed the launch site as pad 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center — but indicative of a recent pattern with those federal advisories, the Falcon 9 will instead lift of from nearby Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
