Red Sox Notes: Anthony, Yoshida, Bregman

There has been a lot of extension speculation surrounding Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony but he tells Rob Bradford of WEEI that no real progress has been made on that front. “There hasn’t even been a single peep about it since I’ve been here,” Anthony said. He also said “both sides have handled that well in terms of just letting me go and play.”

The Sox came into the year with three top prospects in Anthony, Marcelo Mayer and Kristian Campbell. There were extension rumors surrounding all three in the winter and Campbell eventually did put pen to paper, signing an eight-year, $60MM deal in early April.

In wake of massive Devers trade, 'Roman Empire' just beginning

You have to say the Red Sox have had good luck with hot kids over the last decade or so. Xander Bogaerts showed up in the big leagues at age 20 in 2013, got big hits in the ALCS and World Series that year and helped the Sox win it all.

Mookie Betts, one of the truly great all-around players of his time, showed up the next year at Fenway Park. He was 21. He became an MVP in 2018 and the Red Sox were champs again that year, with arguably the greatest Sox team of all time. Mookie’s teammate on that ’18 team, Rafael Devers, had shown up at Fenway the year before, at age 20.

Back Soon? Red Sox Issue Positive Injury Update On Alex Bregman

Red Sox rookie Roman Anthony is finally starting to look the part, but he’s always felt it.

Anthony, who has slashed .407/.696/.593 since June 27, discussed his mindset with Audacy’s Rob Bradford prior to Friday’s series-opening win against the Washington Nationals.

“It’s just one of those things, I think that you just have to, playing at a new level, even in the minor leagues, you just have to experience it,” Anthony said. “There’s no way to get ready for it other than to just be yourself and prepare and then, you know, experience it.
