Thomas Muller to team up with Lionel Messi? Bayern Munich legend addresses Inter Miami rumours and hints at retiring as MLS move stalls

Thomas Muller has spoken about his future plans ahead of his exit from Bayern Munich, addressing rumours linking him with a move to Inter Miami.

Report: Bayern Munich’s Thomas Müller wants LAFC move, but it’s complicated

The future is open for Bayern Munich star Thomas Müller and he could be leaning toward a move to LAFC per Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia):

Los Angeles FC wants to sign Thomas Müller and Müller also wants to go to LA in principle, but both parties have so far been unable to reach a financial agreement. Now Adidas is involved to close the gap. Müller has a contract with Adidas, which could be extended and improved in the event of a move to the MLS.

Bayern are pushing to make the move to their partner club happen and make Müller their US ambassador for the American market. Bayern called Adidas and asked them to bridge the financial gap. Adidas would also be interested in Müller as an ambassador in America—especially ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Müller is currently only interested in a move to LAFC. If the transfer falls through even with the support of Adidas, Müller could decide to retire.

‘Unthinkable’—MLS Club Rejects Thomas Muller's Approach

Thomas Müller wanted to come to the Philadelphia Union, but the MLS club weren’t ready to make such a splash given his salary demands.

Traditionally one of the more frugal clubs in MLS, the Union have long relied on their young stars and academy products to drive their success, and have enjoyed strong returns as one of the stronger teams in the Eastern Conference in recent seasons.

Although designated players and more established contributors often buoy the young talents, Müller’s demands proved too much for the club to consider. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the FC Bayern Munich star forward had asked for a deal that would pay him between $8 million and $10 million a year, significantly more money than the Union have traditionally spent.
